Need to extend your lease or looking to acquire the freehold? We can help
3 August 2017
Meet Ian Perry, co-founder of Perry Bishop and Chambers and former MD, who is the go to expert for Leasehold extensions or Freehold acquisitions across our region. A Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Ian has been helping Landlords and Tenants for more than 30 years as they negotiate this difficult area of Property Law and Valuation.
One of the drawbacks of owning a long leasehold flat, or maisonette, is that it is a diminishing asset. The fewer the number of years that remain on the lease, the less valuable it becomes and the freehold becomes more valuable. The law gives the leaseholder (Tenant) a statutory right to extend their lease once they have owned it for two years and a group of tenants can come together to acquire the Freehold of their block of flats or apartments. This process can be protracted, involving the preparation of complex valuation reports and negotiating a compensation payment with the landlord.
Ian’s wealth of experience acting for Leaseholders and Freeholders in this specialist field should give you confidence through the whole process and he will work closely with your solicitors who are responsible for ensuring that the statutory legal process is followed.
