The Old Rope Walk has provided me and my family with wonderful memories. The most immediate favourite feature is its location. The trees seem to curtain the house from wind and in Spring and Summer hide the town from view. In the Autumn and Winter the view of St Mary's spire and Silver Street houses is welcome. For much of the year the wide variety of birdsong is a joyful accompaniment to each day, as is the birds abundant Prescence in the garden thanks to the trees and shrubs.No 1 is a warm and roomy home and the garden produces show stopping surprises now and then during the year. The wisteria on the south wall bursts into a mass of scented purple every April, following this the leaves afford privacy for the two resident wood pigeons to refurbish their nests and repay hospitality with gentle cooing. Soon after that the Peonies in the front garden raise their blooms to please everyone - but in the sheltered back garden in June the Rambling Rector rose has its moment of glory more privately. Mountains of white frothy fragrance gradually crescendo and fill the house and garden with a fabulous scent.The Old Rope Walk has a secure feeling and comprises just five houses. The neighbours are never overlooking each other and are a community of welcoming, warm and generous friends. Immediately opposite is The Old Railway track, now the source of a variety of glorious public walk. And just four minutes’ walk along the track is the Good Shed Arts Centre and cafe, bristling with high level entertainments to suit every age and every taste as well as a permanently open safe playground for small children.
