I adore The Close Hotel, whether it is for their fabulous breakfast or a glass of champagne in the garden on a summers day. - What do you love about the area?
The beauty – I have lived in many places but the sheer beauty of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire is something to behold. From rolling countryside to honey coloured stone houses, fabulous transport links and quirky events like the Wacky Races in Tetbury or the Boules tournament in the centre of Sheraton. - Where is the best place to relax in the area?
My favourite place to go is Westonbirt Arboretum, get back to nature, follow the trails, scuff the leaves in Autumn and breathe! - What do you think is the best view in the area ? The one that gets me every time is when the Church of St Mary’s is lit up in the evening on a misty night, something a little bit ethereal.
- How would you spend a ‘perfect day’ in the area ? I would begin with breakfast at The Close Hotel, after exploring the shops of Tetbury I would head to Malmesbury to wander along the old walls and the river walk, before picking up a picnic at The Summer Cafe and head into the beautiful Wiltshire villages of Sutton Benger, Grittleton and Burton. Pick up a few things from the Farm Shop in Burton before heading back to Sherston for dinner at The Rattlebone Inn. Right I’m off!

A particular favourite is The Red Lion at Wainlodes just on the outskirts of Cheltenham. Great pub food and a fantastic riverside beer garden. Well worth a visit.
What do you love about the area?
I love the events that are on in Cheltenham. There is of course the famous Gold Cup but there are also lots of festivals throughout the year like the Literary Festival, Food & Drink, the Light Festival to name a few. Its great that so much is going on – there is something for everyone.
Where is the best place to relax in the area?
I love nothing more than grabbing a coffee and reading my book whilst watching the world go by. I particularly love O’Haras on St Georges Place. The best coffee in Cheltenham.
What do you think is the best view in the area?
Looking across the lake in Pittville Park towards the Pump Rooms. Doesn’t matter what time of the year it is, it’s beautiful.
How would you spend a ‘perfect day’ in the area?
Going for a walk with my dogs in the surrounding countryside followed by nice food with friends and family.

What do you love about the area ? The variation in geography with winding valleys blending in with stunning vistas over open countryside.

With three dogs, I love taking a walk on any of the local commons such as Rodborough, Selsley or Minchinhampton. All are equally enjoyable with views for miles on a sunny day

Where is your favourite pub or restaurant? My favourite pub is The Crown in Cirencester. They do great food and drinks, there’s such a lovely atmosphere and sometimes they have live music! (and a big beer garden!)
What do you love about the area? I love the community and how safe I feel even when it’s busy. I also love how surrounded by nature we are and the busy marketplace at the weekend (lots of yummy food, and gorgeous clothes and jewellery!).
Where is the best place to relax in the area? My favourite way to relax is by going on a peaceful walk through Hares Bush near the Cricket Club in Cirencester, it’s usually very quiet and there’s lots of different routes to take depending on how long you want to be.
What do you think is the best view in the area? I think the best view in the area has to be at the top of Leckhampton Hill, you can see for miles!
How would you spend a ‘perfect day’ in the area? My perfect day would probably start with a nice slow morning and going to Toro Lounge for some brunch, then doing some charity shopping in town, having a stroll through the marketplace, and ending with some dinner and drinks with my friends at one of the many pubs around town.

About Tetbury
Located in the Cotswolds, the town has Trustees – The Feoffees. They are Trustees of the Charities which enable them to continue the same work as when the Tetbury Feoffees were first appointed in 1633, namely to improve and develop Tetbury and its people.
Local amenities in Tetbury
Situated on the site of an ancient hill fort, this delightful market town is home to a host of independent retailers and an eclectic mix of shops, including a mixture of lifestyle, artisan and antiques, regularly mentioned in the mainstream press as well as much loved cafes, pubs, bistros and bakeries. It’s a thriving community with The Tetbury Goods Shed at the heart, an arts centre that is a great venue for events.
Within the town, there are two good schools, St Mary’s Primary and Sir William Romney Secondary. Westonbirt Independent School, a co-ed independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 18 years is also not far away.
Leisure and activities in Tetbury
The town is known for its Royal connections, with both King Charles and Princess Anne living nearby. In the early 1980s, King Charles moved to Highgrove which is a few miles away and made it his home. The Highgrove Gardens are now open to visitors and you’ll see everything from a traditional English garden to a beautiful wildflower meadow to incredible natural sculptures which have been specially commissioned.
Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, is another fantastic place to visit and is suitable for all ages. There are over 15,000 trees from all over the world and numerous trails, some of which are dog-friendly. The arboretum also hosts regular events including the popular ‘Forest Live’ concerts over the summer months and the ‘Enchanted Christmas’ trail in the winter. To celebrate the town’s tie to wool, the beloved woolsack race in May always attracts lots of visitors. The town also hosts Tetfest, the Flower Show and the big light switch on at Christmas.
Transport links in Tetbury
For cars, the town has the A433 running through it which has connecting roads leading to the M4 and M5 motorways. Local buses are also available with services to nearby towns. The closest train station is in Kemble, only a 12 minute drive away and it has direct services to London Paddington, Swindon and Cheltenham Spa.
